HEALTH AND POPULATION

In some parts of the world, extreme poverty leads to lack of choices, opportunities and basic servises needed to improve the situation of men and women.

Reproductive health

Women often suffer poor reproductive health, which is the leading cause of death and disability for women in their reproductive year. Every minute a woman dies during pregnancy and birth due to inadequate care and prompt treatment.

HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS is one of the most critical health issues in the world today. About 3 million people died of AIDS- related diseases in 2005, and more than 40 million people are living with HIV in the world today.
Every day, thousands of people are newly infected, many of them are young people under 25 years old. Many of them lacks knowledge about the disease and how the virus is transmitted. Thus, education and information is crusial in empowering women and young people, in preventing HIV from spreading and reducing further suffering and social and economic disruption.

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)

United Nations Population Fund, funded in 1987, is an international development agency that promotes the right for everyone to enjoy a life of health and equal opportunity.  UNFPA workes for the prevension of HIV/AIDS, reduse poverty and improve reproductive
health.
UNFPA works with governments to formulate policies and strategies to reduce poverty and support sustainable development. It also helps in collecting and analysing population data that can help understand population trends.
