The Community Project 'Cultural Diversity' Forumsconvened (almost) every second month throughout last year were originally titled the Intellectual Culture forums -based on the need for a viable, and continuous cultural dialogue and discourse in Australia, particularly in Sydney.
Throughout the Forums there was a consensual decision made to consider perspectives of cultural values as the key reference of these vibrant discussions.
Presenters came forward from among those who participated in each Forum, and raised questions related to 'cultural values' from these presentations, thus forming the basis of further themes to be considered by presenters in the 2007 Forums.
Meanwhile, The Community Project is set to move into the next stage. This will comprise the preparation of a heritage project in association with Marrickville Council, thanks to the work of Community Development Officer, Sharyn Coughlan, Culture Lab International, and potentiallyMarrickville's Addison Road Community Centre. My sincere thanks to Willem Brugman and Katherine Hassall of Culture Lab, Shoshana Brenner and Jaya, Ben Weiss, Peter Weitzel, and Sandy Yang, for your already considerable support and assistancewith this vital project. Also thanks to Allecia Khartu, Martyn King and Ryoko Yoshii for your contributions to this initiative.
Amid these developments, the International Year of Community Project will continue to be sustained through the UNAA (NSW) members.
Thanks to all who participated in each of The Community Project 'Cultural Diversity' Forums, throughout the last year, in particular Teik Hock Lim, President of the Australia Malaysia Singapore Association, and former President, Hock Ooi, President of the Chinese Australian Forum, Soo Keat Lim, Jenny Lim, Susan Leong, and Maureen Ten, our adept Forum moderator. Further appreciation to our Forum presenters so far this year - and to Margaret Bell, for her superb presentations on the theme of Community and Civil Society. Noel Tointon, the Continental Philosophy Group Convenor, is also to be commended for enabling me to extend The Community Project dialogue through my presentations throughout the year.
